Murphy, Madeline
By Canton CitizenMadeline (Silva) Murphy, 96, recently of Cornerstone at Canton, died March 5, 2022, reuniting with Leo C. Murphy, Jr., with whom she shared 59 years of marriage.
Born in Fall River, daughter of the late Anthony T. and Mary L. (Benevides) Silva. She was the devoted and loving mother of the late Leo C. III and his late wife, Marianita, of Warwick, RI, the late Kevin I. and his wife, Martha, of Narragansett, RI, Bradford J. and his wife, Rose, of Plain City, OH, Karen D. of Canton, and Justin I. C. and his wife, Jennifer Dahmus, of Menlo Park, CA. Madeline was the loving grandmother of Melissa, Patrick, Maddie, Justina, Anthony, Dylan, Teagan, Lisa Lewis, Charli Ward, Irene Moore and six great-grandchildren. She also leaves several nieces, nephews, and many cousins.
Madeline was a graduate of Durfee High School in Fall River. She entered Jackson College at Tufts University, graduating in three years with a B.S. in biochemistry in 1946, enrolling in Tufts’ School of Medicine and completing one year before ceasing her studies to focus on the love of her life, Leo, and starting a family. Their life together involved many friends, extended family, and adventures across the United States and Europe. In the late 1970s, they settled down in southern Rhode Island, and Madeline began a prolific career as a real estate broker spanning four decades, where she made many lifelong friends and helped many families find the right homes.
Her family is very appreciative of the care provided to her by Cornerstone, where she enjoyed the enrichment programs, particularly those involving music.
Visiting hours are March 27 at 4 p.m. at Silva-Faria Funeral Home, and her funeral is March 28 at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, both in Fall River. A private committal will be held at the Block Island Cemetery.
