Honey Dew launches 3rd annual Maffie fundraiser
By Canton CitizenThe Honey Dew Donuts at 375 Neponset Street in Canton will be celebrating the memory of Anthony Maffie for the third year beginning June 2, on what would have been his 26th birthday.
Now through Thursday, June 9, Honey Dew will be selling special purple sprinkled donuts and 100 percent of the proceeds will be donated to the scholarship funds in Maffie’s name and to CURE Epilepsy, the leading nongovernmental agency committed to funding research in epilepsy in hopes of finding a cure.
A Canton native and 2014 CHS graduate, Maffie worked at many jobs while in high school and Honey Dew was one of his favorites. When he moved on to work in the nursing field, his first stop most mornings was Honey Dew, especially if his younger brother Austin was working.
Anthony’s true passion was to be a nurse. He loved people and knew he could make a difference in their lives. Attending Curry College in Milton, Anthony was in his junior year as a full-time nursing student when he died suddenly in his sleep on January 4, 2019, at the age of 22. The cause was determined to be SUDEP, or sudden unexpected death in epilepsy.
This is the third annual fundraiser organized by Honey Dew Manager Alecia Harris and is an amazing tribute to a truly special young man.
Please stop by Honey Dew on Neponset Street between June 2 and 9 to purchase a purple sprinkled donut, and don’t forget to take the handouts on epilepsy and SUDEP and share them with people who could benefit from this knowledge. The Maffie family’s goal is to educate more people about epilepsy and seizure safety and to help those affected by epilepsy talk about SUDEP with their healthcare professionals.
