McKenney, William J.
By Canton CitizenWilliam J. (Bill) McKenney, Jr., of Canton, MA, died June 17, 2022, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton. Bill was born on October 30, 1935, in Boston to Theodore R. (O’Connor) McKenney and William J. McKenney. Bill grew up in Jamaica Plain where he attended Boston Public Schools through grade 8 and then went on to Cathedral High School in Boston and later Boston College, graduating with the Class of 1957.
After graduating from college, Bill served in the U.S. Army, and after his discharge he became a teacher in the city of Boston. Bill devoted the next 30-plus years of his life teaching at the Chittick Elementary School in Mattapan. His dedication to his students was well known and appreciated by the students, their parents, and his fellow teachers. Bill’s passion for hockey and baseball were well known to all who knew him. Bill also developed a passion for golf, and this became his favorite source of recreation over the last 30 years of his life as a member of the Walpole Country Club.
He was predeceased in death by his mother and father and his beloved wife, Brenda. His love for all of his nieces and nephews was a hallmark of his life.
He is survived by his sister, Barbara O’Leary, formerly of Foxboro, and his brother, Robert and his wife, Serena, of Sanbornton, NH. He is also survived by the following nieces and nephews: Robert McKenney, Jr., Kristin T. Anderson, Kathleen Manzi, Kerin Lauria, David McKenney, Robert O’Leary, Stephen O’Leary, Kevin O’Leary, Kevin Bassette, Kathy Martin and Tracy Rinaldi.
Funeral Mass in St. Oscar Romero Parish (formerly St. John the Evangelist) Friday at 10:30 a.m. Visiting hour at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street, Friday prior to the Mass from 9-10 a.m. Burial Canton Corner Cemetery.
