Message of gratitude from Chief Rafferty
By GuestDear Editor:
There are no words adequate enough to thank everyone who had a part in the ceremony on June 14, as I was sworn in as the town’s 14th chief of police. It was a perfect evening and I just know that my parents were looking down so proudly. I would especially like to thank the Select Board for allowing me to have it at the Paul Revere Heritage Site, as well as Kristen, who helped to prepare the barn for the occasion.
After calling Mike Molway and Julie Mitchell of FM Generator to get input on how they set up the 9/11 ceremony last fall, they immediately became “personal planners” in decorating the site, preparing the programs, and just offering wonderful support in so many ways.
Louis Jutras, Canton’s dedicated information systems manager, what would this town do without you? Thanks so much for all of your AV help. Also, the assistance of our DPW workers in transporting the equipment to the site did not go unnoticed.
Thank you, Maf — you came through with the flags, like you do on so many patriotic events in this town. It was so wonderful to see past Chiefs Ruane and Bright present. It was so appropriately fitting to have my retiring boss act as the master of ceremonies and the first woman town clerk, Tracy Kenney, swear me in.
Special shout out to Absolute Landscaping for having the grounds so beautifully groomed and Cynthia Rosina for capturing every moment on film. My heart was full as the faith leaders of so many denominations participated in the invocation, and the children of the police officers I work with recited the Pledge of Allegiance. The support of all of the officers from within the Canton Police Department and those from surrounding communities was astounding.
I will never forget it. I could go on and on with gratitude, but I fear I would miss so many. To my family and friends, much love. To the community I swore to protect and serve, I am honored by the privilege to serve you in this capacity.
