Pirrera, Anne L.

Anne L. “Nancy” (Devlin) Pirrera, 81, of Canton, formerly of Randolph, passed away August 24, 2022.

Anne was born in Dorchester and attended school there and was a graduate of Holy Cross High School. She graduated with a BA from Catholic University in Washington, D.C., in the early 1960s, taking only two years, rather than the typical four years, and effortlessly adding a master’s degree in the following year. From there Anne went to the Sorbonne in Paris to earn her PhD in contemporary European philosophy in three years.

Unable to resist the lure of education upon her return to the U.S., she received a master’s degree in education at the University of Massachusetts. Anne taught philosophy at Cathedral High School in Boston, where she met her husband, Ron. She began her career for John Hancock as a commercial real estate officer where she worked and traveled tirelessly for 28 years. After her retirement she became a member of the Harvard Institute of Learning in Retirement, where she took and led the courses.

Anne was the wife of the late Ronald R. “Ron” Pirrera. Loving mother of Edward J. “Ted” Pirrera and his wife, Sarah, of Canton and the late Thomas R. Pirrera. Cherished grandmother of Rachel D. and Christopher T. Pirrera of Canton. Dear daughter of the late James and Anna (Meldon) Devlin. Devoted sister of Virginia Ward of Braintree, Gerard Devlin of Bowie, MD, and the late Thomas and James Devlin and Patricia Robichau. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral Mass was held Tuesday in St. Mary Church in Randolph. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Randolph.
