Citizen honors Lane, McCabe as fall sports MVPs
By Canton CitizenThe Canton Citizen is pleased to announce its MVP selections for the fall 2022 season. Writeups for all of the fall all-stars, along with team photos and season recaps, can be found in the December 28 print edition as part of our annual fall sports wrap-up.
Boys MVP
Owen Lane (Football)
A junior captain and two-way impact player, Lane played an indispensable role in the Bulldogs’ return to winning football, excelling at quarterback and as a linebacker on defense. As the team’s signal caller, he was the definition of a dual threat, rushing for 690 yards and nine touchdowns while passing for another five scores. As a defender, he racked up 39 tackles, including 19 for a loss, and had both a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. He even served as the team’s punter with a respectable average of almost 32 yards. “He is the entire package,” head coach Anthony Fallon said of Lane.
Girls MVP
Emily McCabe (Soccer)
A senior captain and two-time All-Eastern Mass. selection, McCabe was absolutely brilliant this season as she led the Bulldogs to an 11-4-5 season and a return trip to the state playoffs. A go-to player in every sense of the word, she finished as the league leader in goals with 21 and added seven assists to put her at second overall in total points. “Emily has been growing stronger each year and this year all her hard work paid off,” said head coach Idris Senyonjo. “She can shoot with both feet and has also scored a handful of goals off headers. She is an all-round dynamic player and has been a great team captain as well.”
