School Committee’s intimidation tactics need to stop
By Canton CitizenDear Editor:
The tactics now being employed by the Canton School Committee to create community pressure and resentment towards the Canton Teachers Association (CTA) for its perfectly legal action in strictly adhering to the existing contract is no different than the scare tactics and intimidation used by private companies to thwart and undermine unionization and other legal concerted activities that they find disagreeable.
There is no way that adhering to the existing contract is actionable. There is no way that Work to Rule is actionable. The threat of layoffs and budget shortfalls and the inability to continue full operation is classic management blackmail in the private enterprise. It is no different here, and no one should be allowed to get away with this clear distortion of facts.
Everyone in the public sector got their raises, and there are millions of dollars still remaining in the budget, and the misinformed, misguided protectors of the town budget need to be put in their place when it comes time to giving the heroes of education their proper compensation. This one-sided onslaught against the people who are preparing your children for the future must stop.
