Hammond, Edwin H.
By Canton CitizenEdwin H. Hammond, 94, of Canton, passed away February 14 surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Holden, he has lived in Canton for over 80 years. He graduated from Canton High School, was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, and worked for many years as a field supervisor for Emerson & Cuming.
Ed was a member of the American Legion Post #24 in Canton, a member of the Blue Hill Mason Lodge in Canton, and a 32nd Degree Scottish Right Mason. He also served for many years on the Canton Veterans Department Honor Guard providing military honors for many deceased veterans from the town of Canton. He stayed active into his later years and enjoyed golfing, tennis, and bike riding.
Beloved husband of the late Christine M. “Tina” Hammond (Mitcheroney). Father of Kathleen Knowles and her husband, Wayne, of FL, Carol Hammond of Taunton, Nancy Nagelschmidt and her husband, Fritz, of FL, Gail Avelar and her husband, Finn, of Stoughton, and Amy Duquette and her husband, Peter, of Walpole. Brother of the late Beverly Remiesiewicz. Also survived by 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by grandsons Michael Avelar and Kenneth Richbourg.
Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street, on Tuesday, February 21, from 4-7 p.m. Funeral service Wednesday, February 22, at 10 a.m. at the Congregational Church of Canton. Burial Canton Corner Cemetery.
