Fatal pedestrian accident under investigation
By Mike BergerA team of law enforcement investigators are working to determine the cause of a fatal pedestrian accident on University Ave. in Westwood last week that claimed the life of a Canton woman.
The accident was reported to Westwood police at 9:50 a.m. on Thursday, March 16. Two nurses stopped to render first aid to the victim, who has since been identified as 82-year-old Alice Wedge of Canton. Wedge was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Needham and was pronounced dead at approximately 10:30 a.m.
According to the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office, Wedge appears to have been struck as she was crossing the street coming from the retail complex toward the nearby railway station.
The driver of the vehicle involved in the collision, an adult male, remained on scene and spoke to responding officers. No charges have been filed and the accident remains under investigation by Westwood PD, the Massachusetts State Police, and the Norfolk DA’s Office. The State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section (CARS) are also assisting in the investigation.
Traffic stop turns up vehicle theft
A routine traffic stop in Canton in the early morning hours on Sunday, March 19, led to the arrest of a Dorchester man after police determined that the vehicle he had been driving was stolen. The traffic stop occurred at 1:47 a.m. at the intersection of North and Pine streets. The operator, Sergio Roojerry Dorlean, 25, was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle and receiving stolen property over $1,200. Police later determined that he has outstanding warrants from the Boston, Woburn and Quincy police …
