Citizen names 26 Spring Sports All-Stars

The Canton Citizen is pleased to announce its 2023 spring all-star selections. The full list, complete with write-ups for each athlete, appears in the July 6 print edition as part of the Citizen’s annual spring sports wrap-up section.

Boys MVP

Max Kupferman (Tennis)

A legend in the making, Kupferman was an unstoppable force on the tennis courts this spring as he put together a second straight undefeated season, winning all 16 of his matches in straight sets and running away with yet another Hockomock League MVP award. In the state tournament against a powerhouse Sharon squad, Kupferman was the only opponent the Eagles couldn’t solve, which was also the case in two regular season matches. Head coach Bill Donovan said Kupferman has gotten better in each of his three seasons and always appears to be in total control, processing the match in real time and setting up his points with precision. “He’s the top player in the league and he showed it once again,” noted Donovan.

Girls MVP

Katie Oliver (Track & Field)

A three-time league all-star as a junior, Oliver was the girls track team’s leading point scorer and a willing contributor wherever she was needed, whether it was jumps, hurdles, or sprints. She had her greatest success this season in the long jump, placing second at the league meet and advancing all the way to All-States, but she was nearly as prolific as a triple jumper and finished fifth in that event at the Division 4 Championships. She also ran the crucial second leg of the 4×100 relay that placed third at both the league and divisional meets, and she finished no worse than second in dual meets in the 100-meter hurdles. “This athlete is a great leader, has always put the team first, and we are excited to have her back for one more year,” noted head coach Anna Amico.
