CFD extinguishes house fire on Nancy Circle
By Mike BergerCanton firefighters rescued two pets and quickly controlled and extinguished a house fire that broke out in the basement of a home on Nancy Circle on Sunday evening, August 20.
Canton Fire Engine 2 was the first on scene at approximately 5:10 p.m., and upon arrival firefighters found flames coming from the rear basement window of the single-family home. No one was home at the time except for the family’s dog and rabbit, who were both rescued.
Members of the Stoughton, Sharon, Norwood, and Foxborough fire departments responded to the scene to assist, and firefighters from Westwood FD provided station coverage.
Damage was contained to the home’s basement and the fire was declared under control within 25 minutes. The home, however, was deemed uninhabitable and three residents were displaced and are being assisted by family members and friends.
One Canton police officer was transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation and was treated and released.
The origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation by the Canton Fire Department.
