Karavas, Kyriaki I.

By

It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of Kyriaki Irene Karavas — known among those who loved her as “Kiki” — on Thursday, September 7, 2023.

Kiki was born on May 18, 2000, in Boston. At 3 months old, she was baptized by the Abbess and the 16 nuns of the Holy Annunciation Convent on the island of Oinousses, Chios (Greece). She grew up in Canton, from where she graduated high school in pursuit of her myriad artistic and athletic talents. Kiki was especially fond of soccer, tennis, and painting, and never missed an opportunity to exhibit and hone her gifts outdoors amongst nature and greenery. She went on to study at Lesley University in Cambridge with a focus on psychology — studies which she passionately desired to employ in the help of others.

Kiki was a victim of severe sexual abuse over the course of years from a tender age — a struggle which ultimately proved impossible to overcome. According to her doctors, her complex and severe PTSD would likely be insurmountable even within a full lifetime. She loved life and all those around her. She fought so very hard to rise above these struggles but lost this battle on September 7, 2023. Though she bore many crosses at once, the driving force of her life never ceased to center around seeking to help others by volunteering, sharing her experiences, and raising awareness about the epidemic of fentanyl addiction plaguing society.

Kiki is survived by her mother, Stella (Stavroula), and her two older brothers, Yiannis and Stephanos, amongst other immediate and extended family members in the Boston area and Greece. She leaves behind a legacy of struggle and sacrifice, and the unforgettable memory of her vibrant spark and thirst for life known to all who loved her. She was always a beacon of light in all the lives she touched, a light which will forever remain alight in our hearts. May her memory be forever eternal.

Our family would like to extend special gratitude and appreciation to the Canton Police Department and Canton Fire Department for their consistent support and unwavering efforts to help Kiki overcome her immense struggles. They always went above and beyond to support us all, but most especially our beloved Kiki. We are eternally grateful to all of you.
