Kilroy, Timothy W.

By

Timothy W. Kilroy, 64, of Eddington, Maine, passed away peacefully at his camp on Chemo Pond surrounded by family and friends on September 8, 2023.

Tim was born and raised in the town of Canton. It was here that he learned how to play ice hockey on Ponkapoag Pond and golf at Ponkapoag Golf Course. Tim would like to thank his parents, the late Thomas and Louise Kilroy, Canton teachers, the town of Canton, and all of their citizens for providing the greatest childhood a little boy could imagine. Even though the 1976 boys ice hockey team lost in the state championship final at Boston Garden, it propelled Tim into a career as an educator.

Tim had a very successful 35-year career as an athletic director, teacher, administrator, college professor, and ice hockey coach. He would like to thank Husson University and the University of Maine at Orono for his professional opportunities.

Tim also would like to extend the deepest thanks to USA Hockey for providing career research and placing many of his students into the administration of ice hockey. Tim expressed his warmest regards and appreciation to the Boston University ice hockey coaches, Jack Parker and the late Jack Kelley. Both coaches developed the tools and skills necessary in Tim’s life to adapt and overcome to meet whatever adversity he faced that day. Tim was one of the first quadriplegic head coaches of a varsity ice hockey team.

To Tim, family, friends and students were everything. He was known as Dr. “K” to his students and Grandpa Grinch to his grandchildren (because his heart grew three sizes on Christmas day). All were always welcome at camp for hockey stories and fish tales. More often than not, Canton Bulldog stories were bigger than the fish being caught, but Tim was at his happy place. He was loved by all and touched so many young lives. He will be sorely missed in the classroom and the rink.

Tim was a loving father to Killian Kilroy and his wife, Emily, of York, ME, Keegan Kilroy and his wife, Sarah, of Kittery, ME, Elisabeth Kilroy and her husband, Gabe Jensen, of Columbia, MD, and Sgt. Konlon Kilroy of Washington State. He was devoted Grandpa Grinch to Kate, Elise, Kane, Shea, and a player to be named later due in October 2023.

The Kilroy family will honor and remember Tim with a private service and burial. Should friends desire to make a contribution in Tim’s name, he wishes a donation be made to your local USA youth hockey organization or the United States Disabled Golf Association (USDGAgolf.org).
