D’Olympia, Diane M.

Diane M. D’Olympia (Napolitano), a loving and selfless daughter, sister, mother, “Nani,” aunt, friend, and nurse, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2023, in Canton.

Born in Boston, Diane was known for her strong character, nurturing spirit, and lifelong commitment to service, leaving an indelible mark on each life she touched.

Diane was a 1968 graduate of Canton High School. Starting out as a lab technician at New England Medical Center, she developed a passion for the medical profession. As a single mother, she committed herself to nursing classes at night and working during the day, achieving her degree from Laboure College in 1990. Diane’s dedication to her profession was evident in her long and notable career as a registered nurse at New England Medical Center, a visiting nurse in Roxbury, and finally as a neurology nursing care coordinator at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston. Even after retirement, her devotion to helping others remained unwavering; she was the first person everyone in the extended family would look to for medical advice and she generously committed her time and skills to provide healthcare in Haiti and Honduras, exemplifying her selflessness and love for her patients.

Diane was the embodiment of love, devotion, and self-sacrifice. She was the beloved mother of Morgan C. D’Olympia and his, wife, Jenny, of Canton. She held a special place in her heart for her grandchildren, as “Nani” to Noah, Austen, and Ella D’Olympia, whom she adored immensely. She was a committed caregiver to her parents, Carmel and Aldo Napolitano, and a loving sister to Paula George and her husband, Frederick, of Pembroke, and Denise Napolitano and her husband, Charles Young, of France. The bond she shared with her extended family was profound, and her absence will be deeply felt.

She had a love of traveling, films, and especially Halloween. Her Oscar and Halloween parties were legendary, and she took great pleasure in sharing that enthusiasm with her friends and family.

Diane was a complex and amazing woman. She overcame many hardships, but her loving and caregiving nature stood out above all. She was committed to helping under-served communities, and always saw the best in people. The impact of Diane’s life on those around her is immeasurable, and her memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy of love, service, and devotion will live on through her family and the countless lives she touched with her compassionate care.

Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street, Thursday, October 5, from 4-7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 6. Burial Canton Corner Cemetery.
