CHS robotics team to host E-Waste drive Oct. 15
By GuestSubmitted by the Canton Robodogs
The Canton High School robotics team invites the community to its annual Electronics Waste (E-Waste) fundraiser on Sunday, October 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the CHS parking lot behind the Rodman building.
At the event, which runs concurrently with the Canton Farmers Market, robotics team members will be on hand to collect electronic waste, which will then be turned over to a local company (Surplus Technology Solutions) to be recycled. In return, residents can support the team by making a monetary donation to help buy robot parts, updated electronics, and other supplies.
It’s a win-win-win — you clean out your home office and closets while doing your part to help the environment and supporting a dedicated and industrious robotics team!
Donations will be accepted in cash, a check made out to ‘Town of Canton,’ or through MySchoolBucks. Suggested donations include $5 for a shoebox amount of e-waste, $10 for a small rubbermaid bin, and $25-30 for large items.
Items accepted at the E-Waste drive include:
* Computers, laptops, monitors, keyboards, mice, routers and gear
* Copiers, printers, scanners, plotters, toner cartridges
* Tablets and smartphones
* Telephones and telephone systems
* Video game consoles
* Switches, wires, cords, batteries
* Air conditioners and small household appliances
* DVDs and VCRs
* Raw metal
* Test equipment
Please note: The robotics team will not be accepting any TVs (the town transfer station does) or anything with cathode ray tubes (old-style monitors.)
So stop by the E-Waste drive on Sunday, October 15, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. behind the Rodman building, where you can meet some of the robotics team members and drop off your old, unwanted electronics, make a donation to support CHS Robotics, and help save the planet! Just follow the signs to the drop-off location and you will begin to help solve the world’s fastest growing waste stream problem.
While you’re in the area, be sure to shop at the Canton Farmers Market, check out a demonstration of the Canton Robodogs’ robot, and have the kids play at the Kids & Bots activity station. Hope to see you there!
