DeLello, Richard D.

Richard D. “Dick” DeLello, of Canton, a loving family man, esteemed educator, and active community member, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2023, at Benchmark Senior Living in Westwood. Born and raised in Boston, Dick was known for his intelligence, passion, and faith-filled life, qualities that endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Dick was the beloved husband of Patricia (Carty) DeLello, a cherished relationship that spanned many decades. He was the son of the late Frank and Reenie DeLello and the proud father of Kathleen Milne and her husband, Roger, of Canton, Janet LaBelle and her husband, Jerry, of Canton, Stephen DeLello of Canton, Richard DeLello and his wife, Judy, of Lansdale, PA, Lisa Dugan and her husband, Vito, of Portsmouth, NH, Robert A. DeLello and his late wife, Kate, of Canton, Michael DeLello and his wife, Amy, of Canton, and James DeLello and his former wife, Shannon, of Exeter, NH. Dick was also a dear brother to Jeanette Winthrop and her husband, Walter, of Canton. He was a doting grandfather to Allison LaBelle, Stephanie Milne, Annie DeLello, Tommy DeLello, Chris Milne, Patrick LaBelle, Matthew DeLello, Peter Milne, James DeLello, Meghan LaBelle, Joseph DeLello, Billy DeLello, Sean DeLello, Kevin LaBelle, Kelsey DeLello, Elizabeth DeLello, and Ryan DeLello, who brought immense joy and pride into his life.

Dick was a highly educated man, having graduated from Boston Technical High School and Boston College. He furthered his commitment to learning by earning a master’s degree in education from Boston State Teachers College. Dick’s passion for education led him to a fulfilling career as a teacher at Boston High for over 36 years. His dedication to his profession was evident as he served as a union representative for the Boston Teacher’s Union, advocating for his colleagues and the teaching profession.

A man of deep faith, Dick was an active parishioner at St. John the Evangelist Church in Canton. He served as a lector, volunteered with the Pre Cana Program, and assisted with collections during weekly masses. His faith was a guiding force in his life and a testament to his character.

Dick’s community involvement extended beyond his church. He was a member and past grand knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 2095 and a member of the Canton Senior Men’s Club. His love for sports led him to be active in the Canton Little League, where he served on the board, coached, and umpired for many years. Dick’s love for golf and bowling was well-known. He once bowled a perfect game, a feat that brought him much joy and pride.

However, above all his accomplishments and interests, Dick valued his family most. He treasured family gatherings and made every effort to be present at each of his grandchildren’s milestones. His family will remember him as a pillar of strength, love, and wisdom, and his legacy will live on in them.

Dick DeLello’s life was a testament to his intelligence, passion, and faith. He has left an indelible mark on his family, students, colleagues, and community. His memory will be cherished and his life celebrated by all who knew and loved him.

Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street, Thursday (today) from 3-7 p.m. Funeral Mass in St. Oscar Romero Church Friday at 10 a.m. Burial Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
