Moore, Phyllis
By Canton CitizenPhyllis Moore of Canton passed away Thursday, November 23. She was the beloved wife of the late Keith Moore, mother of Samuel K. Moore, grandmother of Divya (Kit) and Naveen, and mother-in-law of Anupma Malhotra. She was like a second mother to Rick and Jana Barnett.
Phyllis was a longtime member of temple B’nai Tikvah in Canton. A devoted nurse and educator, she earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and master’s and doctoral degrees from Boston University.
She received many recognitions for her service to the profession of nursing, including from the New England Regional Black Nurses Association and from the Massachusetts Association of Registered Nurses, which honored her as a Living Legend in 2011. She was a past president of the Massachusetts Nurses Association and served the Massachusetts Nurses Foundation. She was active in several nursing organizations, published many articles, and spoke at a number of conferences.
The major part of her career was as a professor and department chair at Simmons University. Following that, she entered private practice as a therapist.
A service was held at Schlossberg Chapel on Sunday, November 26, followed by burial at Sharon Memorial Park.
