CHS boys basketball scores key win over Taunton
By Mike BergerUsing its strengths in speed, rebounding and athleticism, the CHS boys basketball team improved to 2-1 with a 70-62 win over Taunton last week at CHS.
Four Bulldogs scored at least 15 points as Canton built leads of 21-12 after the first period and 35-25 at the half. The Bulldogs extended the lead to 55-37 going into the fourth quarter and held off a surging Taunton rally as the Tigers caused problems for Canton’s offense with a full-court press, which cut into the Bulldog lead.
Jamaal McConnell led the offense with 20 point with Jeremiah Predin adding 17, Lucas Massih scoring 15, and Zaza Francoeur adding 14 points. Also playing well were Owen Lane and Anthony Diletizia.
Head coach Dan Kizer called the victory a “good team win” with improvements shown on team defense. “I think we just wore them down with our dribble penetration, help defense and conditioning,” Kizer said.
Teammate Chris Pirrera said the Bulldogs “moved the ball well, played good defense and played as a team.”
The Bulldogs will next play Randolph, Kizer’s former team, in the Snowden Tournament on Thursday, December 28, at 5:15 p.m. at Milton High and will continue play on Friday, December 29, against either Northampton or Milton at either 5:15 p.m. or 7 p.m. at Milton High.
