News Notes: Police & Fire respond to bomb threats

By

In a span of just hours on Thursday, January 4, Canton emergency responders were alerted to two bomb threats — one received by Temple Beth David shortly after 8 a.m. and another reported by the Norfolk Probate Court on Shawmut Road at 10:30 a.m. Deputy Police Chief Patty Sherrill said the threats were communicated by email and there were several similar threats sent to synagogues and government buildings throughout the commonwealth. Members of the Canton Police and Fire departments searched both buildings and found no evidence of a bomb.

Weekend snowstorm hits Canton in two waves

Thirty-five town plow drivers, along with 19 private contractors, hit the streets on Saturday night and worked around the clock until late Sunday in an effort to keep up with a snowstorm that hit the area in two waves. The early part of the storm consisted of light snow mixed with sleet and rain, which eventually turned to all snow around 1 p.m. Sunday and continued into the early evening. In all, the Canton area received approximately five inches of snow, and DPW crews remained on the roads plowing and sanding until late Sunday night. DPW Superintendent Mike Trotta estimated that the storm will cost the town around $95,000.
