Oliver takes 5th at All-State Indoor Track meet

By

Canton High School senior Katie Oliver leaped to a career best distance of 17’8.5” in the long jump on Saturday at the MIAA Meet of Champions. Her previous career record was 17’6” set last spring, and her previous indoor career best of 17’4.75” was set just one week prior at the Division 3 meet, where she finished third overall.

Oliver, who competed last indoor season at the New Balance National Championships, was ranked 14th going into the meet and finished fifth overall. She has now qualified for the New England Championships (top six from each state), which gets underway next Saturday, March 2, at the Reggie Lewis Center. Oliver is the first individual from CHS to qualify for this New England meet since Jonathan Chery in 2020.

“I am extremely proud of Katie,” said head coach Anna Amico. “She is a true testament that consistent hard work and dedication pays off.”

Even though Oliver is the lone CHS indoor track team member going on to New Englands, the Bulldogs were also expected to send a team to the MSTCA boys and girls pentathlon, with Sam Vail, Maks Alves and Mo Arugollu due to compete for the boys on February 27 and Sally Hoban, Chloe Dubuisson and Oliver scheduled to compete for the girls on February 28.
