Beloved husband of Judy N. Malin (deceased). Loving father of Glenn Malin and his wife, Jeri, of North Easton, Randi Chancey and her husband, Frank, of Harvre de Grace, MD, and Holli Roberts and her husband, Neal, of Andover. Cherished grandfather of Ross (Justice), Ben, Karli, Casey (Alex), AJ (Gabriela), and Heather. Dear brother of the late Gloria Appleton and dear sister- and brother-in-law of the late Jane and Leonard Fine. He will be remembered warmly and missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Harvey was raised in Roxbury and graduated from Roxbury Memorial High School. He earned his teaching degree at State Teachers College at Boston and enlisted in the Army where he served for two years stateside during the Korean Conflict as a private first class at one of the Nike missile testing sites. Harvey was a proud patriotic veteran. Following his service, he continued his education, earning a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies from Northeastern University.
In June of 1957, Harvey and Judy were married, and a few years later they started a family, raising their three children in Canton. Harvey was an industrial arts teacher for 34 years in the Brockton Public Schools. He had much pride in his work and spent hours crafting incredible projects for his middle school students. He loved the energy of teaching and satisfaction when his students enjoyed and learned the fine arts of plumbing, electrical, woodworking, drafting, metal fab and copper tooling. During the summers he was a house painter and vacationed on the Cape and all points U.S. with his family. After retirement, he worked for Enterprise Rental Car for 19 years where he was part of a team that drove the fleet rental cars between destinations throughout New England.
The Malins were engaged in Temple Beth Abraham (Temple B’nai Tikvah) life since moving to Canton in the early 1960s. They had many family life cycle events and were involved in temple committees such as chairing the House Committee, Bingo nights, Sisterhood, helping with the-biannual auction and other fundraising efforts, as well as planning and participating in many spiritual and social activities and events. Over the years, they were honored and celebrated for their continued and longstanding support of the temple.
Harvey and Judy felt blessed and grateful to be part of such a wonderful community and to have many families and friends scattered across the country with whom they kept in touch and visited whenever possible.
Services were held Tuesday at Schlossberg Family’s Chapel on the Hill, 824 Washington Street in Canton, followed by interment at Sharon Memorial Park in Sharon.
