The Canton Citizen is pleased to announce its 2024 spring all-star selections. The full list, complete with write-ups for each athlete, appears in the July 3 print edition as part of the Citizen’s annual spring sports wrap-up section.

Girls MVP

Katie Oliver (Track & Field)

A senior captain and Bulldog track legend, Oliver put the exclamation point on her record-setting career with a postseason run for the ages — one that saw her win not one, but two league titles in the triple jump and long jump, along with a pair of gold medals in the same two events at the MIAA Division 4 Championships. Along the way, she went undefeated in dual meets in both events; became one of only three athletes in the state to break the 19-foot barrier in the long jump this season; and qualified to compete at the Meet of Champions, where she placed seventh overall in the triple jump. She also was a key source of points in the sprints and hurdles and helped lead the 4×100 relay team to a second-place finish at the league meet and fourth-place finish at states. She leaves Canton High as the holder of countless school records and a well-deserved reputation as one of the greatest to ever put on a Bulldog uniform.

Boys MVP

Brendan Tourgee (Lacrosse)

A senior captain and four-year varsity starter, Tourgee unsurprisingly had a huge hand in the success of the varsity lacrosse team this season, setting new season highs with 34 goals and a team-leading 43 assists. Together, his 77 points were the sixth most in the Hockomock League this year, pushing him past the 200-point milestone for his career. A player synonymous with leadership and winning in three different sports (ice hockey, lacrosse, golf), Tourgee was Canton’s ‘go-to guy’ this spring in every sense of the word and routinely came through when the team needed him most, as exemplified by his game-winning OT goal against Sharon and game-winning OT assist versus King Philip.
