PRHS unveils new ‘Historic Silhouette’ exhibit
By Canton CitizenThe Paul Revere Heritage Site is pleased to announce the unveiling of the “Historic Silhouette” exhibit in collaboration with EXP Studios and the Paul Revere Museum of Discovery and Innovation (MoDi). The works were opened to the public on May 18 and will remain open throughout the rest of the year. The four historic silhouettes were designed, fabricated and installed by EXP Studios in collaboration with the Revere museum and serve as a poignant reminder of the past. Among these silhouettes are a Native American tribe member from Ponkapoag, a rubber plant worker, and a couple identified as the “Canton Dale Resident” and “Copper Works Laborer.”
The works consist of both traditional and modern materials, including antique granite, patinated steel, and an aluminum core. Hitching posts made out of reclaimed granite will be adorned with a large metallic number, keying the locations of the works for reference from the viewfinders located on the barn’s terrace.
“I am thrilled to welcome this remarkable new installment of historical snapshots, which honor the legacy of those who have shaped our town,” said Stephen Schottenfeld, development director of the Paul Revere Heritage Site. “This exhibit is a testament to the power of history in fostering understanding, unity, and pride within our community.”
These figures, reminiscent of ghosts, embody the rich and diverse history of the region, from its indigenous roots to its industrial heritage. The silhouettes invite visitors to engage with the stories of those who lived and labored in the Canton area, creating a powerful connection to the site’s multifaceted history.
“We are thrilled to bring these historic silhouettes to life at the Paul Revere Heritage Site,” said John Carney, founder of EXP Studios. “Museums like the newly envisioned MoDi serve as intellectual and economic engines for their communities. This project not only leverages amazing stories from the past but also creates a dynamic connection between history and the community.”
EXP Studios, the oldest museum specialty firm in New England, boasts over 40 years of excellence and has welcomed more than one billion visitors to their designed experiences. Founded in Boston, the firm is locally rooted but internationally recognized, having completed over 500 projects across all 50 states and in Asia, Europe and the Caribbean.
At the Paul Revere Heritage Site, EXP Studios has focused on creating a museum project that serves as both an economic and intellectual engine for the community. The story of Paul Revere and his copper mill site is one of entrepreneurship, creativity and discovery. Through immersive experiences, technology, and interactive, hands-on learning, visitors will explore the joys of entrepreneurship, mentorship and the connections to educational institutions. Revere’s newly branded vision will leverage connections through maker spaces with public school systems, clubs and universities. While Paul Revere is a historical figure, this fresh take — Paul Revere MoDi — draws lessons from history to inspire a new generation.
The museum is slated to open in 2025, thanks to funding approved by Canton voters at the Annual Town Meeting in May.
