Buckley, Denison

Denison (Denny) Buckley, born January 3, 1949, of Canton, and longtime resident of Nantucket, passed away peacefully August 27, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Spouse of Richard Green. Mother of Ben Buckley-Green, Sarah Blanchard and Susannah Buckley-Green. Sister of Paul Buckley Jr., Suzanne Matthews and John Buckley, all of Canton. Grandmother to five grandchildren of Mill Valley, California and Charleston, South Carolina.

Denny was an adventurous world traveler, spending extensive time in Nepal and India. A cottage industry entrepreneur, she co-founded Nantucket Designs for Children. Having worked and lived in Nantucket during the summers beginning in the late 1960s, Nantucket became the home where she would live and raise a family, settling down in Codfish Park in Sconset in 1975. Denny and Richard were married in a Quaker ceremony with a blessing from the Reverend Ted Anderson of the Unitarian Church, and she was later a longtime member of the Unitarian Church.

Often irreverent, her genuine, positive personality brought humor, joy, and the realism of a life lived presently to those she met. Denny never waited to do whatever it was that inspired her. A true woman of action and a lifelong learner, she lived with purpose and intent. She survived brain tumors and cancer throughout her adult life and always maintained a grateful and positive outlook. Never one to complain, she brought appreciation and comfort to those who cared for her. Denny’s creativity, wit, will, humor, and compassion will always be remembered as uniquely Denny to those who knew her best.

Denny’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the team at the Hellenic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center who cared for her with love and compassion for many years.

Donations may be made in her memory to the Marla Lamb Fund, which provides financial assistance to those needing to travel off Nantucket Island for treatment related to cancer.
