CPD urges vigilance amid rash of car burglaries
By Mike BergerThe Canton Police Department is repeating a call for all residents to lock their vehicles — even when parked in driveways or in seemingly safe areas — following a string of burglaries and vehicle thefts reported in the town over the past few weeks.
Several of the recent car breaks were reported on the same day, October 7, in two primary locations: off Pleasant Street near Reservoir Pond and off Washington Street near Kenney Street. Also on October 7, a vehicle was reported stolen on Arboretum Way, and one week later, police arrested a Brockton man in connection with a car break on Washington Street.
More recently, on Wednesday, October 23, police received two more calls from residents in the Kenney Street neighborhood who reported having their vehicles stolen, with the calls coming in just 20 minutes apart. Earlier last week, a vehicle was also reported stolen on Heritage Lane, located off Washington Street just a half mile from Kenney Street.
In all of the recent burglaries and thefts, police said the car doors were left unlocked, and in some cases, money, jewelry and tools were taken. Besides locking their doors and removing any valuables and keys from their vehicles, residents are being advised to stay vigilant and report any unusual behavior to police.
