A vote for GMS project is a vote for our future
By GuestDear Editor:
I am writing to you as a parent, a citizen, and an educator in regard to the upcoming Galvin Middle School project and vote. I would like to highlight the importance of approving this proposal as it is not just wanted, but needed. It is not something that should be done, but has to be done.
In its current state, teachers are instructing lessons in shared space due to the shortage of classrooms, which affects how our students are learning and their teachers are collaborating. I have heard of too many instances of classrooms flooding, makeshift classrooms in areas with no windows; and the overall deterioration of the building that was constructed in 1971. The existing safety and security features are unacceptable. Our most vulnerable population should not be experiencing this on a daily basis.
As an educator in a neighboring town, I understand the profound impact a quality learning environment has on children. As a citizen in this town, I know the advantages of what a new school can do for property value, community building, and overall development of the town. And as a mother to two young children, the benefits of what the new Galvin Middle School would bring to facilitate their learning is invaluable. The enhancement of the quality of teaching and learning, increased accessibility for all students, and overall improved school experience that would be delivered is something that would last a lifetime. A new Galvin Middle School will give the children of Canton the best atmosphere to learn, succeed, and compete with those in other schools throughout the state and country.
I urge all citizens to attend and participate in the Special Town Meeting on Monday, November 18, at 7 p.m. at Canton High School, followed by the debt exclusion vote on December 10, to support this proposal. The future generation of Canton is dependent on it!
Sincerely,
Kacy Kalell
