Capturing the Blue Hills
By Canton CitizenThe nonprofit Friends of the Blue Hills celebrated a very successful 2024 photo contest with the announcement of award winners at their Annual Celebration on Tuesday, October 15, at New England Base Camp in Milton.
More than 130 photo submissions were entered in this year’s contest, which was sponsored by Dedham Savings. All photos were taken in the Blue Hills Reservation, showcasing everything that visitors love about this local gem.
This year’s Judges’ Choice award went to Christine Roberts of Quincy for “Forest Fairy,” and the winner of the popular vote was Denis Minovich of Natick for “Walk into the Reservoir.”
The judges also awarded prizes for their favorites in two subject categories: What Lives in the Blue Hills, which went to Matthew Thomas of Roslindale for “Ring-Necked Duck,” and Who Visits the Blue Hills, which went to Shawn Szturma of Arlington for “Paddling on Ponkapoag Pond.” Several Canton residents also entered photos in this year’s contest, including 2022 Judges Choice winner Thomas McCaffery.
All contest winners received a $300 gift certificate from Page + Waterman Gallery and Framing in Natick as well as a gift pack of goods from Patagonia Cambridge.
The annual Blue Hills Photo Contest opens for submissions in the summer and is free to enter. Learn more at friendsofthebluehills.org/photo-contest.
