Canton’s Northern Spy restaurant to host Grateful Bagel pop-up event January 25
By Canton CitizenDarren Sylvin of Grateful Bagel will be joining Northern Spy restaurant for a special pop-up event on Saturday morning, January 25, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
The bar area inside the Canton-based eatery will be transformed into a café setting, offering counter service with fresh retail bagels. Northern Spy will provide coffee, tea, a full bar menu, and fresh retail pastries, with seating available in both the bar area and dining room.
Pre-orders are encouraged by calling 781-989-1850, but walk-ins are also welcome. Bagel flavors include plain, sesame, garlic, onion, salt, everything, poppy, cinnamon raisin, pumpernickel, and pumpernickel everything with optional schmears including plain, scallion, and bacon scallion.
Northern Spy will also offer a variety of breakfast sandwich options, including smoked bluefish pate; bacon/sausage, egg and cheese; smoked country ham; and hearth-roasted root vegetables.
As a New England-style restaurant known for its focus on locally sourced ingredients, Northern Spy is pleased to be teaming with Sylvin, a New Jersey native and trained chef who has spent the past few years perfecting his recipe of “authentic, hand-rolled and kettle-boiled bagels” for a Massachusetts audience.
In early 2023, Sylvin began selling his bagels via direct order on Instagram, and he now hosts regular pop-ups in bakeries and restaurants across the greater Boston area.
According to Edible Boston, Sylvin has been steadily gaining recognition for his authentically New York/New Jersey-style bagels, which are “baked to a deep golden color, giving them that quintessential exterior crunch which gives way to a dense, chewy interior.”
The visible twists in the dough, notes the magazine, “lets you know they have been hand rolled, and biting into one delivers a transportive sensory experience of being enveloped in that doughy scent characteristic of bagel shops.”
On January 25, that characteristic scent will waft through Northern Spy, which has amassed a strong following of its own since opening in Canton in late 2020. Located inside the former copper mill building at the Paul Revere Heritage Site, the restaurant serves a variety of classic regional dishes, including fresh seafood, hearty meats, and seasonal vegetables.
