Hundreds turned out at Blue Hills Ski Area for the Friends of the Blue Hills’ annual Winterfest event on Friday evening, January 24.

Presented by the Friends in collaboration with Blue Hills Ski and several other community partners, the free, annual celebration featured a variety of outdoor and indoor activities, including live music by Lynn Joliecoeur and the Pulse, arts and crafts for kids, discounted downhill skiing, and much more.

Orchard Cove, a Canton-based senior living community, returned as an event sponsor, and Orchard Cove’s chefs one again took home the popular vote part in the annual Winterfest chili cook-off, with Canton-based Northern Spy repeating as the judges’ choice winner. Also competing for the title of ‘Best Chili in the Blue Hills’ were Oasis Vegan Veggie Parlor from Dorchester, Mattapan Food and Fitness Coalition, Abby Park from Milton, and The Fowler House from Quincy.

New for attendees this year were a guided twilight hike, tubing, kite flying, balance boarding, potato sack races, shoe demos, and a raffle worth more than $1,000 in goods. Community partners Arc’Teryx-Boston, Blue Hill Observatory & Science Center, Brookwood Community Farm, Mass Audubon, Mattapan Food & Fitness Coalition, and The Run House-Walpole hosted various types of winter activities and product demonstrations on site.
