Sfougaris, Tula

By

Tula Sfougaris, 89, a lifelong resident of Canton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.

Tula wants to be remembered for her love of family and friends, for being a hard worker and a consummate volunteer. She was born and raised in Canton. Her glory days were at CHS. She was captain of the cheerleaders in her senior year and was the forward-center on the undefeated field hockey team; she was unstoppable.

When she retired, she became a force behind the Canton High Alumni Association. She and a few others created an electronic database of every CHS graduate. She chaired the committee and chaired the fundraising piece. She ran events from annual trivia nights, complete with 50-50 raffles and silent auction items, to putting out the alumni table at countless reunions and other Canton events. She was masterful at shaking people down for her beloved CHS. The money generated went to capital expenses and to student extracurricular programs.

She was a self-educated scholar, and she had a moral compass that was her north star. She read everything she could get her hands on. She loved U.S. history and reading about the British empire.

She instilled in us a desire to fight for civil rights for all. Even though she never had a lot of money, she was willing to give to those who had less than her and was willing to speak up for those who didn’t have a voice.

She was a force of nature. She was loyal to her many friends, and people were drawn to her like bees to honey. Her effervescent personality and up-for-anything attitude kept her busy right up until the end. She will be missed.

Loving wife of the late John K. Boyden. Devoted mother of John P. Boyden and his partner, James Long, of Everett, Peter N. Boyden of Canton, Julie A. Boyden of North Easton, and Patricia M. Boyden and her husband, Gary Francescon, of Canton. Proud grandmother of Anthony Francescon, Alexandra Francescon, Tristin Boyden, and her beloved great-granddaughter Isla York Parrish.

Visiting hours were held on Monday, March 3, followed by interment in Canton Corner Cemetery. Arrangements by the Pushard Family Funeral Home, 210 Sherman Street, www.roache-pushard.com.
