Harrington supporters not ‘disruptive malcontents’
By GuestDear Editor:
I strongly disagree with those like Mr. Corkery, who in his letter last week, discredits Canton residents whose vision for Canton differs from his as “disruptive malcontents.” A healthy community thrives on open dialogue and diverse perspectives. A call for change is a sign of engaged citizenship, not disruption. As a proud 19-year Canton resident and father of two sons who graduated from Canton Public Schools, I want a Select Board focused on what’s best for Canton, rather than relying on what’s been done in the past. I strongly support Susan Harrington for a position on the Select Board and urge all Canton citizens to do the same.
It’s important to acknowledge the hard work of Select Board members and the long tenure of the incumbent that has undoubtedly shaped Canton. However, past accomplishments shouldn’t shield anyone from scrutiny. We need to acknowledge the seemingly closed culture of the Select Board and be willing to review outdated practices and change a culture of deferral to the longest tenured member.
As Canton prepares for a crucial election on April 8, we face a fundamental choice about our town’s direction. Canton needs a Select Board that prioritizes transparent communication, makes decisions based on best practices and future-oriented thinking, and values the input of all Canton residents, not just those who have lived here for more than a certain number of years or who have certain relationships. Susan Harrington understands that a thriving Canton welcomes new ideas and values the contributions of all its residents.
Harrington offers a compelling vision for a more transparent and responsive Select Board that’s not satisfied with the status quo. Her background as a successful small business owner managing finances, leading employees, helping clients, and growing the business for more than 20 years isn’t just a point on her resume; it’s the practical experience needed to effectively serve Canton’s residents and address the town’s evolving needs. Her commitment to Canton students and interest in improving outdated processes — demonstrated by her tireless volunteer work with the CPS music and performing arts departments and active participation in the Bylaw Modernization Committee — showcases her willingness to roll-up her sleeves and make Canton better.
Susan Harrington has demonstrated in her work and stated clearly that she will value the engagement and input of all residents. Let’s move beyond divisive rhetoric and embrace a future where Canton is a well-managed and thriving community for everyone. Canton deserves Select Board members who possess Susan’s vision and energy to continue to make sure Canton is great. I urge voters to visit www.HarringtonForCanton.com and cast their vote for Susan Harrington.
Sincerely,
Michael Albert
