The Canton Citizen is pleased to announce its 2024-25 winter all-star selections. The full list, complete with write-ups for each athlete, appears in the April 25 print edition as part of the Citizen’s annual winter sports wrap-up section.

Boys MVP

Travis Thomas (Ice Hockey)

A senior captain and a proven winner, Thomas earned himself a spot among the program’s all-time greats with a sensational final season, culminating with a trip to the Division 2 state title game. This year’s Hockomock Davenport MVP winner, Thomas was a force of nature on the offensive end, averaging a whopping two points per contest to lead the team in scoring with 26 goals and 27 assists. And he maintained that pace throughout the playoffs against some of the state’s top teams, culminating with a gutsy performance (1g, 1a) in the Bulldogs’ heartbreaking double-OT loss to Billerica at the TD Garden. “Travis was our go-to offensive player,” noted head coach Brian Shuman. “His speed made him a threat every time he touched the ice, and he always played his best games when we needed him most.”

Girls MVP

Annie McLean (Swimming)

A senior captain and a true powerhouse in her sport, McLean enjoyed arguably her finest season yet as she cemented her place as one of the program’s most decorated swimmers. At the league championships, she earned her third consecutive gold medal — this time in the 100-yard butterfly — while also nabbing a silver in the 50 freestyle and a bronze as part of the 200 freestyle relay. She then went on to finish second in the 100 fly at both the south sectionals and state championships while placing fifth and seventh, respectively, in the 50 free. “Annie can swim everything,” noted head coach Cheryl Cavanaugh. “She had to miss some time earlier this season and was not able to practice, yet she still managed to have a phenomenal season.”
