Marshall, Edward J.
By Canton CitizenEdward J. Marshall, 97, of Canton, passed away January 14.
Born in Boston, he was raised in Dorchester and graduated from Dorchester High School and Boston College. He was a great athlete and pitched for a time for the Boston Braves. Ed was a proud World War II veteran of the United States Army. He was a teacher in the Boston Public Schools for many years before retiring.
During his tenure as a teacher Ed was active in Chapter 766, a group that helped disadvantaged children. He was also an active member of the town of Canton, where he volunteered as a poll worker, coached Little League baseball, and was an active parishioner of St. Gerard Majella Church. For many years he enjoyed spending summers at the family cottage in Humarock Beach in Scituate.
Beloved husband of Joan A. (Kelley). Father of Susan Johnson-Ennis and her husband, Robert Ennis, of Wrentham. Grandfather of Douglas Johnson and Sara Williams and her husband, Matthew. Brother of Walter Marshall of Quincy and the late Joseph, William and Robert Marshall.
Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street, Friday from 4-7 p.m. Funeral Mass Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Oscar Romero Church in Canton. Burial Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital at www.stjude.org.
