Overboard to play Open Book Coffeehouse

Boston a cappella group Overboard will perform at the library on January 21.

The Open Book Coffeehouse continues its seventh consecutive season of showcasing live, acoustic music on Saturday, January 21, at 7:30 p.m., with a cappella group Overboard.

Founded in the spring of 2006 by current director Nicholas Girard, Overboard is a male a cappella group from Boston. Although the group’s repertoire consists primarily of contemporary pop/rock songs, including covers from such artists as Rascal Flatts, Stevie Wonder and The Beatles, the group remains true to its a cappella roots and continues to perform classic selections such as “Blue Moon,” “In the Still of the Night,” and “Stand By Me.”

This past April, the quintet won quite a number of awards, including their second Contemporary A Cappella Recording Award (CARA) in the Best Religious Song category for “Amazing Grace.” They were also runners-up for two other CARAs — Best Jazz Song for “Toxic” and Best Hip Hop/R&B song for “Used to Love U.”

Then, in addition to winning the Boston Regional Harmony Sweepstakes Festival, they also won the Judge’s Prize for Best Arrangement for “All for Love” and the Audience Favorite Award. They also recently received ten A Cappella Community Award (ACA) nominations, including Favorite Pop/Rock Group as well as individual nominations for group members Nick, Scott and Fredo. Overboard has released five albums to date.

Enjoy the relaxing, warm atmosphere of friendly people, good music, hot coffee and homebaked goodies. Admission to the coffeehouse is $12 per person, with a special reduced rate of $6 for students. The doors open at 6:45 p.m. and the music starts at 7:30.

The Open Book Coffeehouse is located in the Community Room of the Canton Public Library at 786 Washington Street and is made possible by the Friends of the Library. Parking is to the left when facing the library from Washington Street. Enter by the “Special Events” door to the left of the columns, midway into the parking area.
