Carlson, Raymond L.
By Canton CitizenRaymond L. Carlson, 84, of Canton, passed away February 4 at Norwood Hospital. Born in Boston, he was raised in West Roxbury and attended Mechanical Arts High School.
He graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and attended Tufts University and worked as an engineering manager for Westinghouse in Hyde Park for many years before retiring. He entered the Navy as part of the V-12 Navy College Training Program and served during WWII.
He was an avid boater and built his 42-foot Grand Banks Style Cruiser, the “Laura V,” and four other yachts as well. He and his wife, Laura, cruised to Florida eight times in their boat the Laura V. He has been a resident of Canton since 1952 and was a member of the Milton Yacht Club and the Blue Hills Chapter of the Power Squadron.
Beloved husband of the late Laura F. (Furbeck). Father of Laurel M. Donelson of CT; Leonard E. Carlson and his wife, Rev. Gloria D. Carlson, of S. Weymouth; and the late Jean L. Drake. Brother of Marguerite Stanas of Hopedale, Mildred Hulbig of Sandwich, and the late Barbara Smith. Also survived by five grandchildren and one great-grandson.
A funeral service was held Wednesday, February 9, in the United Church of Christ in Canton. Interment Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
