On Wednesday, January 25, students at all five of the Canton Public Schools donned black clothing and signed anti-bullying pledges as part of a statewide effort to “black out bullying” in Massachusetts schools.

The initiative coincided with the state’s first-ever “No Name Calling Day,” which was a provision of the landmark anti-bullying legislation signed by Governor Deval Patrick in May 2010.

At Canton High School, student leaders affiliated with the Boomerang Project and MARC (Massachusetts Aggression Reduction Center) made anti-bullying posters and sold “Black Out Bullying” wristbands for $1. Hundreds of CHS students also signed a large pledge banner that was posted in the school’s cafeteria during lunch.
