Farmers Market Opening Day
By Jay TurnerBeautiful late spring weather and a steady stream of happy patrons made for a memorable opening day at the Canton Farmers Market, which kicked off its third season on Sunday, June 11, on the front lawn of the Rodman building. An estimated 1,200 visitors turned out to browse and shop from local farmers and artisans while also enjoying live music, crafts, story time, and community tables staffed by the Canton Garden Club and Canton Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee.
“Everyone was excited to be back on the lawn,” reported Canton Farmers Market Manager Marie Ericson. “People were excited to try new things and excited to feel the community connection. The vendors, returning and new, were excited by the reception from our community. More than one new vendor expressed to me how happy they were and how welcoming and wonderful the Canton community was to them.”
Ericson also expressed her sincere gratitude for the farmers market’s dedicated crew of volunteers. “The teamwork has been amazing!” she said. “It really takes many of us to make this market what it is.”
The Canton Farmers Market will be open every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. through October 22 (except for July 2 and September 4). Each week will feature special events as well as new specialty food vendors, artisans and community table hosts. Learn more at cantonfarmersmarket.org.
