CPD to hold Civilian Police Academy series

The academy will discuss topics such as motor vehicle law, identity theft, social websites, drug identification, and home and personal safety.
The academy starts March 27 and runs through April 24. There is no charge for attending these sessions, which will be held every Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. at the police station, 1492 Washington Street.
Those interested in attending should go to www.cantonpolice.com, click on the community involvement link, then click on Citizens Police Academy and fill out the online form. Those interested can also call 781-828-1214, ext. 507 and leave their name, address, and contact information.
Leading the sessions will be Officer Scott Connor, assisted by School Resource Officer Chip Yeaton.
Two arrested on heroin charges
The Canton Detective Bureau recently wrapped up a drug investigation that concluded with the arrest of two out-of-town residents. Lt. Helena Findlen said police officers, acting on probable cause, stopped a motor vehicle outside the Blue Hill Sports Grill on Rte. 138 at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 1. Police arrested William Moreshead, 33, of Mansfield, and Andreya Lopez, 33, of Foxboro. Moreshead was charged with trafficking heroin, morphine and opium, and Lopez was charged with possession of a class A drug. Findlen said police found 205 grams of heroin in the car with an estimated value of $1,500. Both were held by Canton police pending a court hearing.
Firefighters douse car fire
A quick response by Canton firefighters prevented a car fire from spreading to a house on Osage Road on Wednesday morning, February 1. The car was fully engulfed in the driveway when firefighters arrived within five minutes of the homeowner’s call. Lt. Brian Marshall said the cause of the fire is undetermined, but it is believed to have started in the engine compartment.
Meanwhile, four Canton firefighters responded to a mutual aid call for a Randolph house fire at 209 Warren Street. Lt. Marshall said the three-alarm fire destroyed the house. None of the Canton firefighters were hurt.
Highway accident injures five
State Police and two ambulances and a fire engine responded to an early call on Sunday morning, February 5, reporting a one-car rollover accident that seriously injured five unnamed people at the intersection of routes 93 south and 95. Fire Lt. Brian Marshall said that when firefighters and paramedics arrived shortly after 4 a.m., three people were found in the median strip, having been ejected from the car. Marshall said the car rolled over several times. One injured party was airlifted by MedFlight to a Boston hospital, and ambulances took the four others to Boston Medical Center, Mass. General Hospital, and Norwood Hospital.
