Conroy, Thomas J.

Thomas J. “Tommy” Conroy, of Canton, a proud native of Brighton, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2023, at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston. Born and raised in Brighton, Tommy was a loving and gregarious man whose life was marked by his profound love for his family, his dedication to his profession, and his passion for travel and golf.

Tommy will forever be missed by his beloved Betty Simpkins of Canton and her children, Christine Olson of Easton and Brian Simpkins and his wife, Laurie, of Canton. He was a cherished grandfather to Nathan, Lev, Takif, and Ziba Olson, and Sophia and Sarah Simpkins. The joy of his later years was his great-granddaughter, Penelope Olson.

Tommy was the supportive brother of Michael Conroy of Canton, James Conroy and his wife, Cheryl, of Canton, and John Conroy and his wife, Diana, of Canton. He was preceded in death by his brothers, the late Frank Conroy and his wife, Susan, of SC, and the late Robert “Bobby” Conroy and his wife, Sindia, of Needham. He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Ann (Lundegren) Conroy. He also leaves behind several loving nieces and nephews.

A graduate of St. Mary’s High in Brookline, Tommy continued his education at Northeastern University, the Polygraph Institute in San Diego, and the Massachusetts College of Law. His dedication to his studies was a testament to his fervor for knowledge and the pursuit of truth, traits that would serve him well in his future career.

For many years, Tommy worked as a criminal attorney in Canton and Cambridge. His commitment to his work and his clients was unparalleled. He was a respected member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, where his contributions to the field were recognized by his peers.

Beyond his professional life, Tommy had a deep love for travel. He particularly enjoyed his trips to Europe and the Caribbean, where he immersed himself in different cultures and cuisines. An avid golfer, Tommy loved nothing more than a day on the course with family and friends. His laughter and good-natured competitiveness will be missed on the fairways and greens.

Tommy was a sentimental man who cherished his family and friends. His love was a constant, comforting presence that will be sorely missed. His zest for life, his unwavering love for his family, and his dedication to his work are all part of the legacy he leaves behind.

While we mourn the loss of Tommy, we also celebrate his life, a life lived fully with love, passion, and integrity. His memory will forever be a beacon of love, joy, and resilience for all who knew him. His spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of his loved ones. He will be deeply missed.

Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street, on Sunday from 3-6 p.m. Funeral Mass in St. Oscar Romero Church Monday at 10 a.m. Burial Canton Corner Cemetery. Donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
