Gagnon, Janet A.
By Canton CitizenJanet A. Gagnon (Gareri), 90, formerly of Canton, died peacefully after a long, fulfilled life. Born in Cambridge, Janet was predeceased by her parents, Nicholas and Julia Gareri, and her brother, Peter Robert Gareri.
For 41 wonderful years she was the beloved wife of the late Joseph W. Gagnon. Upon retirement, they settled in Yarmouth Port where Janet resided for 37 years.
She is survived by her children, Karen Gagnon-Fitzgerald and her husband, Jim, of Attleboro, and Kenneth Gagnon of Natick. Janet “Nonnie” was grandmother to her adored Nicholas Fitzgerald, Kara Birch and Joseph and Jayden Gagnon, and great-grandmother to Fallyn and Maeve Fitzgerald and Brady and Cecelia Birch.
A graduate of Boston University, Janet was proud to be a BU alum. She worked as secretary to the commissioner of Veterans’ Services for the commonwealth of Massachusetts.
She was an avid golfer and belonged to several country clubs for over 40 years. A diehard Boston Red Sox fan, she rarely missed watching a game.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 12, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Doane, Beal and Ames in South Dennis. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 12, at 11 a.m. in St. Pius X Parish, South Yarmouth. Burial services will be private.
