Hudner, Mary Ellen

Mary Ellen Hudner, a valued member of the Canton community, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on April 27, 2024. She was born in Boston and carried the spirit of her town throughout her life, touching the hearts of so many that she encountered with her loving, generous, and selfless nature.

Mary Ellen was the beloved wife of James H. Hudner Jr. and a devoted mother to her three sons, James P. Hudner and his fiancée, Shannon, of Derry, NH, Michael E. Hudner and his wife, Ashley, of Salem, NH, and Peter W. Hudner and Vanessa of Quincy. Her joy was enhanced as she became the adoring grandmother to Jack Hudner of Salem, NH. She was the daughter of the late Paul and Helen Williams. She also shared a deep bond with her siblings: sister Janet Feehily and her husband, Michael, of Quincy, brother Daniel Williams and his wife, Marcie, of Portsmouth, RI, sister Nancy Buckley and her husband, Steve, of Hingham, and sister Jean McNamara and her husband, Kevin. Her passing leaves a void in the large family circle, including many treasured nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.

After graduating from Fontbonne Academy and UMass Boston, Mary Ellen’s career focused on community and service. She served with dedication as an employee of St. Oscar Romero Church in Canton and brought warmth and kindness to her role at Canton Co-operative Bank for five years.

Mary Ellen’s generosity extended far beyond her professional life. Her tenure as a volunteer and co-director of the Canton Food Pantry was characterized by her unwavering dedication to helping others. She was known for going above and beyond to assist Canton residents in any capacity, embodying the very essence of community spirit and compassion.

Her involvement in her children’s education and extracurricular activities showcased Mary Ellen’s commitment to family and community. She was also very involved with St. Gerard Majella Parish and St. John the Evangelist School.

Mary Ellen’s legacy is one of generosity, kindness, and the impact one person can have on the lives of others. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.

Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, May 11, at 12:30 p.m. in St. Oscar Romero Church in Canton. A visiting hour will take place Saturday prior to the Mass in the church from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will be private.
