Canton High’s outdoor track teams persevered in tough weather conditions and put in a strong showing at the Warrior Invitational held last week at Foxboro High School. Girls head coach Anna Amico said it was the largest meet in MSTCA history with over 2,000 athletes participating.

For the CHS girls team, senior captain Lianna Camille and sophomore Chloe Dubuisson both recorded personal bests and placed fourth overall in the triple jump and 200 meters, respectively. Dubuisson also set a new PR in the 100m and finished 18th overall, and Maddie Driscoll placed 20th in the 800m.

In the field events, the Canton girls had three high jumpers place in the top 20 — Jayda Proffitt in 11th, Saadatu Sambo in 13th, and Sally Hoban in 15th — while freshman Sophie Regan recorded a new PR in the discus to finish 19th. In the long jump, Grace Martinek placed 14th and Proffitt placed 19th, while Zoe Scibelli took 20th in the javelin.

For the boys team, Zach Sanon had a phenomenal day in the long jump, improving his personal best by over 1.5 feet with a leap of 18 feet, 11 inches. Teammate Mo Arugollu tied Sanon in the long jump, and Evan Tam had a career-best day in the triple jump, clearing 34 feet, 8.5 inches.

Also posting new PR’s were Dan Krasylnykov and Ali Kosta in the 200, while Dalton Wong had a new season-best time in the 400.

The standout performance of the meet for the boys came in the 4×800 as Riley Swearingen, Luke Darling, Tyler Baird, and Ben Weaver ran an impressive 9:20 in the pouring rain and wind to place fifth overall.

“I couldn’t be prouder of how our athletes responded to the cold and rainy conditions,” said head coach Brian Gotsell. “They gave it their all and rose to the occasion.”

The team also hosted its second annual middle school track and field clinic this week. Gotsell said the middle schoolers enjoyed learning shot put, long jump, hurdles, high jump, and sprints/relays from the high school athletes and coaching staff.
