Girls’ hockey team ties Hingham, dominates KP
By Jeffrey CattelThe CHS girls’ hockey team posted another strong week with a 1-1 tie against Hingham and a 6-0 shutout over King Philip to improve its record to 8-4-3 overall.
Hingham came out strong and scored in the first 15 seconds of the game, but senior goalie Sarah Healey prevented any additional goals and racked up 30 saves. The girls managed to tie up the game in the second period off a goal by sophomore Meaghan McKenna. Coach Kelly Rider said Hingham held possession of the puck most of the game, but the girls still managed to create multiple quality scoring chances.
“We had several attempts to score and end the game with a win,” she said. “But we are more than happy to walk away with a tie against the number-eight team.”
On Saturday against King Philip, the girls netted four goals in the first period and then added two more in the second. Scorers included seniors Molly Phalan, Nikki Wanless, and Ali King, as well as sophomores McKenna and Meghan Lennon and freshman Katie Kelleher. Phalan, Lennon, seniors Janel Stenmon and Julie Knochin, junior Stephanie Rizzitano, and freshman Caitlyn Feeney each finished the night with an assist.
The game against KP was also the team’s senior night, and impressively each senior on the roster finished the night with a goal or an assist.
“It was a fun night to honor our seniors,” Rider said. “It was great to see that they each got their name on the score sheet.”
Results of Wednesday’s game against Boston Latin Academy will appear in next week’s Citizen.
