Local business community supports Canton High DECA Club
By Canton CitizenCanton High School’s DECA chapter recently received two donations to support its mission. Boston Mutual Life Insurance Co., headquartered on Royall Street, donated $500 and the Canton Association of Business and Industry (CABI) made a $250 donation.
DECA is an international organization that prepares high school and college students for careers in finance, marketing, hospitality and management.
“Canton is built upon our local businesses and organizations, so it has been amazing to connect with community leaders and learn from them,” said CHS DECA Co-President Pranav Addanki. “We plan on using donations to fund leadership and competition opportunities for our members, and ultimately foster a passion for business in the next generation.”
Club Co-President Anthony Wang said reaching out to local businesses and organizations has been an important learning experience. “We hope to expand our connections and continue our relationships with these organizations into the future to support the mission of DECA in Canton,” Wang said.
The club, which has 59 members, is rapidly growing and has recently seen student members excel at the state competition and go on to compete at the national level.
“It has been so inspiring to work with so many gracious and important organizations, and it really shows the extent to which community outreach is vital,” said Club Vice President Siya Bais.
Next up for the CHS chapter is the DECA District Competition, scheduled for January 9 and 10.
