SC member Maureen Moran will not seek reelection

By

Veteran School Committee member Maureen Moran announced at last week’s meeting that she will not be seeking reelection in April following the conclusion of her second term.

A Canton High graduate and former Luce CAPT member, Moran was first elected to the School Committee in 2019 and was reelected in 2022 to a second three-year term. She currently serves as secretary, as well as a member of the Finance Subcommittee, the Canton Master Planning Implementation Committee, and the Norfolk County Sheriff’s Task Force on Juvenile Substance Abuse and Mental Health.

An experienced communications professional, she has a bachelor’s in English from Holy Cross and a master’s degree from the Columbia University School of Journalism.

Moran’s seat is one of three on the School Committee set to expire this year, along with those currently held by Kristian Merenda, a fellow two-term officeholder, and Sonja Grauds, who was appointed in October following the resignation of Laura Arboleda.

Candidates have until Friday, February 14, at 1 p.m. to take out nomination papers, and the deadline to return completed papers, along with the signatures of at least 50 registered voters, is Tuesday, February 18, at 7 p.m.
