CHS girls track shines at Meet of Champions

Members of the CHS girls indoor track team had a memorable day at the Meet of Champions last weekend as the best indoor track high school athletes in Massachusetts gathered to compete on February 22 at the Reggie Lewis Track Center in Boston.

Head coach Anna Amico said all of the CHS representatives performed better than their original seed and many had personal and team bests along the way.

The girls’ 4×200 relay (Grace Martinek, Sally Hoban, Chloe Dubuisson, Natalia Mallei) ran 1.3 seconds faster in a blazing 1:48.67 to finish 12th overall in the meet. Coming into the meet, they were seeded 22nd. Their time moves them to No. 4 in school history.

The girls’ 4×800 relay (Nora Giannacopolous, Lexi Piazza, Daphne Golden, Klara Redquest) ran four seconds faster than their previous team best of 10:14.14 to finish 16th. Entering as the No. 23 seed, the girls moved into third place on the program’s all-time list.

The girls’ 4×400 relay team of Lily Duong, Sally Hoban, Grace Martinek and Chloe Dubuisson also ran a great race, finishing 19th in 4:16.53 as the No. 20 seed. Amico said this group still sits at No. 1 in school history, breaking the indoor 4×400 record last weekend.

Individually, Dubuisson again ran a sub 9-second time (8.99) in the hurdles, besting her seed time to finish 16th overall.

Representatives of both CHS boys and girls teams will be competing in a regional pentathlon competition this week.
