Friends of the Library gearing up for 5K Fun Run
By Canton CitizenThe Friends of the Canton Public Library are excited to announce the second annual Canton Public Library 5K Fun Run on Sunday, April 27.
Hosted by the Friends, the race will support the library’s renovation and new park installation initiatives, known as the Next Chapter Library Fund. The 5K Fun Run is open to serious runners as well as casual enthusiasts — and anyone else who loves a good race! Families with strollers and walkers are encouraged to participate in this community event.
The fee is $25 per person, and the race is free for children 8 and under when accompanied by a participating adult. Presidential Timing will be providing race support, including the race registration website at runsignup.com/Race/MA/Canton/CantonLibrary5K.
The event will kick off with the Fun Run for kids at 9 a.m., followed by the 5K starting at 9:30 a.m. Both races start and end in the parking lot of Canton Town Hall at 801 Washington Street (diagonally across the street from the library).
Check-in time on Sunday starts at 8:30 a.m. Participants may also pre-check in on Saturday, April 26, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. to receive their materials as well as register as a new participant. Entrants will receive a free t-shirt while supplies last.
The 5K course leaves the Town Hall parking lot, proceeds up Washington Street to Pleasant Street, then to Sherman Street, and back to Washington Street before ending at Town Hall. At the conclusion of the race, participants and crew members are invited to a finish line party on the library grounds with beverages and food items available for sale, including beer and wine at the Mimosa Garden.
The 5K is made possible through the support of several generous sponsors. Confirmed sponsors include Boston Mutual, C.F. McCarthy’s, Donovan Solutions, and the Canton Association of Business & Industry, with more to be announced in the coming days.
The Friends of the Library provide important support for programming, services, and equipment not available through the library’s municipal budget. Memberships are only $10 per year for individuals, $15 per year for families, and $5 per year for seniors. Corporate memberships are $50 per year and Benefactor memberships are $250. Life membership is also available for only $100 per individual, $150 per family and $50 per senior. All contributions to the Friends are tax-deductible.
