Shelter News: Donations needed for sick cat

Kane was found outside on March 26, cold and alone. He was covered in ticks and very thin. Staff members at the Canton Animal Control Department tried to locate an owner, but he didn’t match the description of any missing cats that had been reported, and he didn’t have a microchip. They cleaned him up and got him on a good diet, but it was clear from the start that there was something more going on with him.

Judging by his appearance, Kane was believed to be an older cat; however, after a trip to the Canton Veterinary Hospital, it was determined that he was only about 2 years old and that he had diabetes. The Animal Control Department believes he may have been dumped by his owner because he was sick — a heartbreaking reality for some animals that require extra care.

The department is hoping to find Kane a loving forever home soon. In the meantime, they are seeking donations toward his care. The vet would like him to try Glargine or Lantus, and any help with that would be greatly appreciated as insulin can be costly.
