Problem Solvers offer sincerest apology for animal shelter remarks

Our recent article about the condition of the Milton Animal Shelter was subject to controversy, and we, the 10th grade Canton Community Problem Solvers, would like to send out our sincerest apology. Our team would also like to clarify the message we were trying to send.
Our intent was to portray that being adopted into a home with a loving family is better than living in any animal shelter. One of our friends adopted a dog from the shelter, and he is thriving in his new, nurturing environment. However, while awaiting adoption, the animals at the Milton Animal Shelter are in a safe and caring environment. The dedicated, hardworking employees and volunteers do a wonderful job caring for the animals by performing a variety of tasks.
Every dog gets walked at least once a day and also has the opportunity to run around in the large, fenced-in play area. Cats are also able to enjoy fresh air through a screened-in area attached to the cat room. Volunteers make sure their cages are clean, their water bowls are full, and there are toys for them to play with.
Through employees and volunteers, animals are given human interaction. Still, increased community involvement will help the shelter attain its goal of providing a healthier environment until a new facility is built with the $1 million grant provided by the Copeland Family Foundation.
In our earlier visits, we discovered the poor conditions at the shelter. Since then, many improvements have been made. The cracked and missing floor tiles have been replaced with new flooring. The leaky and moldy ceiling has been temporarily repaired. In the cat room, the dirty walls have been repainted and a heater has been installed.
All of this is accomplished from the love and dedication of the employees and volunteers at the Milton Animal Shelter. We would again like to apologize for the misunderstanding about our article concerning the Milton Animal Shelter.
