Thank you for Canton ShelterBox Day

The sponsors of Canton ShelterBox Day on Sunday, June 10, would like to thank all the marvelous volunteers and patrons for their enthusiastic participation and support of this project! ShelterBox is an international charity that delivers emergency shelter with care, warmth and dignity in “big green boxes” to people affected by disaster worldwide. Each ShelterBox supplies an extended family of up to 10 with a tent and site-specific essential equipment to use while displaced or homeless. (For details, go to ShelterBoxUSA.org.)

Through the collaboration of three Canton houses of worship, fundraisers were held at each site that day with all proceeds going to ShelterBox. A pancake breakfast was held at Temple Beth David; a car wash and café with live music was held at First Parish Unitarian Universalist; and a Family Fun Fair was held at the United Church of Christ. Congregants were also assisted onsite by other community volunteers, including individuals, families, local musicians, youth groups and Canton Girl Scouts. A special thank you goes to volunteer ShelterBox Ambassadors from the Sharon Rotary Club, who set up and answered questions at two ShelterBox displays, including tents and equipment contained in a typical big green box.

We very much appreciate everyone’s contributions of time, effort, venue items, and funds to make this day such a successful endeavor. And we had fun together doing it!
